NJ Man Charged After DUI Crash Injures Philly Officer Near Eagles Playoff Game (Video)

A Sewell, New Jersey man has been charged after a DUI crash near the South Philly Sports Complex injured a Philadelphia police officer during Sunday’s Eagles playoff game, authorities announced on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Thomas Herrschaft, 45, was charged with DUI, Accident Involving Death or Injury, Accidents-Damage, and Driving Without a License after the incident on Sunday, Jan. 19, Philadelphia police said.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. on the 1000 block of Pattison Avenue, where Herrschaft was driving a 2016 black Mercedes Benz eastbound at an unsafe speed and in a careless manner, authorities said.

According to police, Herrschaft reversed his car into a Philadelphia police patrol vehicle, injuring an officer stationed at a traffic post near Lincoln Financial Field.

The injured officer, assigned to the Traffic Division, was transported by Philadelphia Fire Department medics to Jefferson University Hospital for treatment and has since been released, police said.

Herrschaft was taken into custody at the scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
